]]>Being in the video gaming business, we wanted to do some freaky tech-edged logo for AMC when they called us in to do a re-branding. The front of the business cards feature images taken from AMC projects, with different staff members being able to choose personalised images (sketches, graphics, etc) for their cards. The back had some freaky gloss-embossed yellow effect what looks proper well good. The font we chose is some oddball braille combo, again with yellow highlighting. And what could possibly draw more attention to your company than having a bright yellow letterhead? It's hardcore. We did a softcore version, too, incase the garish yellow version caused AMC clients to spazz out on the floor, foaming at the gills.

Because he's a bosom-buddy of ours, we did his site, which we're rather damn proud of. Gin specializes in photography for advertising, but also has his personal artys projects, which we strongly suggest you check out with your eyes. Lots of his projects crop up in Omagiu magazine, such as the one below, inspired by Gray's anatomy (that's the 1918 medical bible, not the hit US TV series, doofus).

]]>FatGovno is a ultra-corporate typeface fresh from our font factory. It looks like it took about two hours to make, which is, like, the whole point, but in fact it took about 17 and a half minutes. You can download it for free, unless you happen to be a huge-profit-making multinational company which owns sweatshops in third world countries, in which case we'll settle for a few sales samples. By the way, don't ever mail us to complain about the kerning. We know, we know... BTW: If you ever do anything nice with the font, drop us a line. We like to see what happens to our Govno, when we release it into the world... Oh, and there is only UPERCASE. Enojoy!

]]>Presenting a website for potter artist friend of ours, which we did for free, nowt, gratis, pro bono. Call us mugs, but we like Elena Surdu a lot, and were drawn in by her strange magnetic charisma. Basically, we couldn't say no to her. We're not even that crazy in the coconuts about her work... I mean, don't get me wrong, we like it, but we probably wouldn't buy it. It was more to do with the alluring charm of Ms Surdu herself. And the fact that she was Carla's aunt. It's basically the only club you can go to that 1) looks gobsmackingly incredible, 2) plays freaky space-disco-acid-prog-house and 3) is packed full of hipster kids dressed like 80s bag-ladies. At first, Embryo was also a restaurant, and we stuck the menu online. We also did weekly updates, and had a nice gallery of photos of us and our friends in compromising situations. See that little widget in the bottom right-hand corner? The site had a rather nice built-in music player. You could listen to the music, watch a slideshow of the photos and basically enjoy the Embryo experience without having to leave your armchair.

]]>Canah was our baby: the first commercial producers of hemp in Romania, with big plans. All very eco-friendly, involving the use of local farmers and traditional methods. We did their naming, branding, site, copywriting, promo materials and packaging. Actually coming up with the final products involved some pretty serious research into spectrum-blocking glass, which we ordered from Switzerland, to protect the fragile hemp oil. We wanted to keep the actual hemp imagery to a bare minimum, avoiding the other connotations that hemp products carry. Sadly the team which realised our designs managed to mess them up, but Canah remains one of our favourite projects.

Kiraly has influenced multiple generations of Romanian artists, being professor at Bucharest Academy of Art. We love his distinctive Hockney-esque photo-montages. So should you. Kiraly also is one half of subREAL, a dynamic artistic duo. If you get hold of any book on contemporary Romanian art, there's gonna be at least a chapter on these guys. The photo of the girl on the bed definitely by bought by the Romanian Tourist Board and used to promote the country abroad. They probably sell 'ironic' wall-hangings like that in Colette for about €500, which kind of takes the fun out of it...

]]>Fresh started out as a young, ambitious ambitious ad agency and we had to create a site for them that would impress potential clients, even though they had no portfolio to speak of behind them. We also did their branding. The Lemon logo got lots of positive feedback - the idea was to allow it to be used in any citrus shade. We could write some noxious rubbish involving the words 'positioning', 'zing' and 'zeitgeist' but you'd probably hate us for it. Fresh logo stickers got stuck up around town, and one of them remains to this day on the door of a supermarket near our studio. It's been there since about 2004. Good times.

]]>We were with Omagiu from the start, creating a magazine from zero. We came up with the logo and the branding, designed the grid and layout, produced the first few issues, came up with posters, invitations - the works. Omagiu is Romania's only real contemporary culture magazine, coming out four times a year. It was recognised at the Colophon 2007 international magazine symposium, and is rated as one of the best ten magazines in Europe. It looks pretty good, and unlike most hipster magazines, also has a lot of engaging content. Our collaboration with Omagiu sadly ended when we discovered the meaning of 'treaba Romanesca'...

]]>Logo for Orlos, a far-out and avant-garde architecture studio based in Graz, Austria. Ortlos means "without a place and space" or something equally baffling, which should give you a kind of idea about the direction their work takes. I think they design buildings without doors, that kind of thing. The logo is all about custom type and breaking the rules, which is something we rather like doing.

]]>Romania's biggest publishers, Humanitas, asked us to redesign their Plato classics. You know how kids in Paris are meant to read philosophy on the Metro? That was basically the idea - to make philosophy appeal to a wider, younger audience. We had something deep and intellectual reason for using such a day-to-day scene, related to the Platonic Theory of Forms, but for some reason we can't remember exactly what it was. Readers of creative review might recognise the typeface used for the 'Platon' logo -- we bought it on the very first day it became available from Neubau - which is kind of the graphic design equivalent of queueing up in the rain to buy you're favourite band's latest album on the morning of its release.

]]>What can we say about Sinboy? You know that thing that you're never more than seven metres from a rat? Well in Bucharest you're never more than seven metres from a Sinboy tag. We did his site. When he's not engaged in mindless, petty vandalism, he's also involved in design, illustration, animation and journalism. He tells us he worked for Colors magazine and studied at Benetton's prestigious Fabrica institute. So that he can update his site without us holding his hand, we made Sinboy a nice back-end widget allowing him to perform updates himself. Having seen some of the stuff he posts, however, has made us re-think just how sensible an idea this was. ]]>We love the Nintendo Wii, and decided to organise the world's first ever Wii Open, held in Bucharest, May 2007. There were 64 places available, and players could sign up via the site we created - in fact, it proved so popular that the event was fully booked after just four hours. The second Wii Open in June sold out even faster -after just four (4!) minutes. We created a flash application specially for the event, which listed who was playing, the score, and then randomly selected the next players. The final round involved a nail-biting showdown with the mysterious masked figure of El Obscuro, the grand master of Wii Tennis who happened to be our very own Flash guru, Iashido. He remains undefeated to this day...

]]>Rompetrol needs no introduction for anyone in Romania, being the country's second largest oil company (or at least it was until it was sold to Kazakhstan last year). After the firm 'developed' a new logo (notice any similarities with the BP logo?) they realised that their clunky old site needed updating too, which is why they called us up. The result was this clea site which rocks the 'corporate' look and features lots of extras, including filling station locators and a timeline of the oil industry in Romania. Shame we didn't ask for oil shares in exchange for our services - if we did, we'd probably be living on our own Caribbean island by now.

]]>We were contracted by the megabucks Romanian IT firm Omnilogic to revamp their web presence. They're pretty hot-shot businesspeople, and even brought Mr Bill Clinton to Romania to do some kind of motivational speech-cum-saxophone performance (actually, I'm not sure about the saxophone bit). We came up with their new site, layout grids, etc etc etc. Sadly their in-house designers got hold of it and started updating the thing without respecting the rules we laid down in the guidelines. It's a bit like when you raise a good, wholesome kid and he comes home one day to tell you that he's joined a gang of street-urchins....

When creating their site we had to be careful that it wasn't too overtly sexual (for fear of offending bigwigs in the US Congress) but still fun and youth-orientated. Our brainchild for this project was Matilda, a regularly updated webcast, in which the hot-damn-sexy Matilda talked viewers through a list of links that flashed up. Video content from social projects could also be uploaded onto the site. Another novelty was Flyerbox, which kept users up to date on up and coming events. On-line polls and surveys were also a key part of the site - some of these were deliberately stoopid, while others were an important market research tool for PSI.

They wanted to develop an umbrella travel brand that could be rolled out to cover any country in the world, offering integrated travel services - from booking a holiday to arranging days out. Their campaign started with Malta, and we were there to do their branding and site. ]]>Before working for Dr Oancea, we had no idea what the difference is between aesthetic, cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. We do now. Since surgery of any kind is such a scary issue, the site had to be friendly, professional and reassuring. We also came up with the texts, writing reassuring things about getting parts of your face messed around with. If you have a peek below, you'll see that there's no clever design solution that helps you avoid those terrifying BEFORE and AFTER photos. The big advantage of working with the Doc was that the It'sEveryday team now have absolutely perfectly proportioned noses. We think of it as one of the perks of the job.

]]>The British Council in Bucharest have a rather cute cafe located in their courtyard. Together with interior designer Carla Szabo we gave it a bit of a makeover. We came up with the mural that you can see across the back wall. The design is made up of some of the oldest Romanian words, those that date back to the time of the Dacians (the dudes who got beat up real bad by the Romans). Branza (cheese), rata (duck), varza (cabbage), melc (snail) - these are all Romanian words that date back to the time of the Dacian civilization. It's a bit like a Romanian echo of the Lascaux cave paintings... or something.

It included full product list, colour-mixing system for finding complementary colours as well as other nice gizmos. ]]>We worked with Loyalia from the very beginning of their story, when all they had were high hopes of breaking into the competitive Human Resources sector. They'd just got a logo, and we were left to come up with a site and a communication campaign. We took their origami logo as a starting point and came up with an innovative origami direct-mailout, constructed from a single sheet of paper. We also created 'tear-off' business-cards, which were to encourage people to enlist on their careers database. The origami theme was continued in the website, which allowed users to sign-up to add their details to the firm's database.

]]>If you've not heard of Maria Popistasu yet, you soon will. She's one of Romania's rising stars in the acting world. We did her site, DVD, portfolio and produced a stereolitographic business card for her (100% smart-ass Chinese technology). She's worked on a whole range of films, including the BAFTA-decorated Sex Traffic for Channel 4. The site also plays host to Maria's bilingual blog, and you can also check out the cute things she produces in her spare time. Girl got talent.

]]>Next Cap were a local advertising agency. We did their first site, which features their working portfolio. After this site launched they went interstellar, bought a fleet of limos, an island just off Costinesti, started investing in oil and GM crops and bought a house next door to Pharrell Williams. Robbie Williams used to walk their dog. Actually, I'm exaggerating. But we did do their site.

]]>Branding project for a real estate group. The logo is based around playing with the weighting of Helvetica. See that squiggly design in the background? It's actually a map of the Baneasa area in the Romanian capital. It's a particularly hot location if you 'appen to be in the real estate business. Their name apparently comes from their founding members - Dinu, er, Ami, ahem, Cornel? Something like that...

]]>El Capitan lies on the edge of Lake Snagov outside Bucharest. The only thing more exclusive than its location is the food they serve. That means it's pretty exclusive. The whole feel of the logo and site is obviously inspired by pre-war Italian modernism - after all, who does food better than the Italians? The typeface is Mostra by Mark Simonson, which suitably reflects the modernist edge we were going for. BTW, don't bother typing in their web address, since the restaurant now has a new owner, who put his Hi5 page or something equally odd in place of the site.

Her site is a presentation of her various talents, and attracted the attention of the likes of Newstoday and FWA. This site won us a place in the Taschen book on Flash Sites, and Grafik Magazine also listed the site as one of their top ten sites of 2005... all of which makes our chests swell with flash-based pride.

]]>Stericare wanted to get into the lucrative industry of disposing of hazardous medical waste. To aid them in their mission, we did them a branding. The logo is a kind of amalgamation between the biohazard symbol (scary!) and the recycling symbol (freindly!) The paper used for all their stationary is obviously recycled, just to prove that they're real about this ecological thang. We also came up with their slogan, which some other firm then went and stole. We did it first! Really!

]]>This summer was burning and we were roasting, not on sandy beaches sipping on mojitos, but in front of our computer screens. So it was a busy season. We spent around 2 months working on a 365 page book and another month designing the website to go along with it. The project's designated code name was "100 to Watch" and is a directory of contemporary Romanian artists, from a variety of domains: visual arts, literature, music, film and contemporary dance. The whole thing was made possible through the kind support and major sponsoring of the Romanian Cultural Institute. The book was printed in over 1000 copies and distributed to cultural venues, art galleries and museums from all over the world.
